Additional degrees include a master’s in history from Texas Christian University, a doctorate in medicine from Emory University, and a Ph.D. in history from Texas Christian University — earned after he retired from active medical practice.
McCallum worked as an adult and pediatric neurosurgeon for over 25 years. Moving into entrepreneurship, he has been founder and chief executive officer of four successful companies. He is currently founder, chief executive officer, and chairman of Integer Health Technologies. In addition, he has taught history at the undergraduate and graduate level, publishing three books and numerous articles dealing with medicine and history, including his most recent book, Epidemics and American Wars. An active and involved Georgia Tech alumnus, he is a longtime member of the College of Sciences Advisory Board and funds the McCallum Scholarships, rewarding outstanding undergraduate School of Biological Sciences students for their academic excellence and performance in Georgia Tech research labs.
Why I give back to Georgia Tech:
”I believe the academic rigor and dedication to teaching and research are essential in our current world. I am also enthusiastic about the possibilities of biomedical advances made possible by the Emory Medical School-Georgia Tech cooperation.”
