Origami

Researchers increasingly use a technique, drawn from the ancient art of origami, to design spacecraft components, medical robots, and antenna arrays. However, much of the work has progressed via instinct and trial and error. Now, a team from Princeton and Georgia Tech have developed a general formula that analyzes how structures can be configured to thin, remain unaffected, or thicken as they are stretched, pushed, or bent.

Channel your inner Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern’s character in "Jurassic Park") at Tech’s Spatial Ecology and Paleontology Lab for Fossil Fridays. Sifting through dirt pulled from the Natural Trap Cave in Wyoming, community members can help researchers find fossils up to 30,000 years old.

Facundo Fernandez

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has tapped several members of the Georgia Tech faculty for Regents’ Awards, including School of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty Facundo Fernández (new appointment) and Nicholas Hud (second reappointment). Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience's Anton Bryksin was also appointed the title of Regents' Researcher.
