Channel your inner Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern’s character in "Jurassic Park") at Tech’s Spatial Ecology and Paleontology Lab for Fossil Fridays. Sifting through dirt pulled from the Natural Trap Cave in Wyoming, community members can help researchers find fossils up to 30,000 years old.

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has tapped several members of the Georgia Tech faculty for Regents’ Awards, including School of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty Facundo Fernández (new appointment) and Nicholas Hud (second reappointment). Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience's Anton Bryksin was also appointed the title of Regents' Researcher.

At the same time, a Georgia Tech research group has spent this summer preparing studies that could help reduce greenhouse gas levels through machine learning and high-performance computing methods.

When humans, animals, and machines move throughout the world, they always push against something, whether it’s the ground, air, or water. Until recently, physicists believed this to be a constant, following the law of conservation momentum. Now, researchers have proven the opposite – when bodies exist in curved spaces, it turns out that they can in fact move without pushing against something.

Inorganic Mass Spectrometry at MCF

The Materials Characterization Facility (MCF) at Georgia Tech has installed a new inorganic mass spectrometry facility. It includes two new inductively couple plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) systems: a Thermo iCAP RQ quadrupole ICP-MS for streamlined and high-throughput determinations of elemental concentrations and a Thermo Neoma multicollector ICP-MS with collision cell technology for the precise determinations of isotope ratios within a given sample.
