The goal of this GAANN fellowship program is to make a significant contribution to satisfying the nation's needs for Ph.D.s who are optimally trained to embark on research and teaching careers in biochemistry and biophysics. As part of their degree program, GAANN fellows will: (i) complete biochemistry/biophysics courses to satisfy degree course requirements including CHEM 6582-biophysical chemistry, (ii) complete a supervised teaching experience (including CETL 8000-Graduate Teaching Assistant Preparation, a teaching experience equivalent to 1/2 the normal GTA load for one year, CETL 8713-Foundations of Teaching and Learning, and a Tech-to-Teaching” mentored practicum/shadowing program with a GT faculty member), and (iii) conduct thesis research in biochemistry and/or biophysics. Fellows who aspire to academic careers will be encouraged to complete additional Tech to Teaching Faculty Preparation courses.

Note: The fellowship consists of an award of financial aid. Acceptance of subsidized loans and other fellowships will reduce the financial need and possibly decrease eligibility for GAANN support. Students must be appointed as a teaching or research assitant in order to received a GAANN fellowship.
