College of Sciences faculty, staff, and a Ph.D. student take home 17 awards
Seventeen members of staff and faculty in the College of Sciences and one Ph.D. student have been selected to receive 17 awards for the 2017-18 academic year. They are being recognized for innovation and excellence in research support, education, scholarship, and outreach.
Seth Marder, Regents Professor and Georgia Power Chair in Energy Efficiency in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, is the recipient of the Class of 1934 Distinguished Professor Award, the highest honor Georgia Tech bestows on faculty. His selection marks the third year in a row that Georgia Tech has selected a College of Sciences professor for this prestigious award.
In two categories, two College of Sciences faculty members are award winners.
Flavio H. Fenton, a professor in the School of Physics, and Raquel Lieberman, a professor in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, are each receiving the Faculty Award for Academic Outreach.
Joseph Rabinoff and Matthew Torres, associate professors in, respectively, the School of Mathematics and the School of Biological Sciences, are two of the five recipients of the five CTL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award.
In two other categories, College of Sciences faculty are co-winners with external partners.
Kim Cobb, a professor in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, and Beril Toktay, a professor in the Scheller School of Business, together won the Innovation in Co-curricular Education Award.
Frank Stewart, an associate professor in the School of Biological Sciences, and his Ph.D. student Darren Parris won the 2018 Education Partnership Award, together with Jennifer Jones, a chemistry teacher at Rockdale County High School.
“People are every organization’s most precious resource,” says College of Sciences Dean and Sutherland Chair Paul M. Goldbart. “I am so proud and inspired by my colleague’s outstanding accomplishments.”
Award recipients will be recognized at Faculty & Staff Honors Luncheon on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, from noon to 1:30 p.m., in the Student Center Ballroom.
